- Actor William Shatner wants to build a Blockchain-powered authentication system
- Tesla CEO Elon Musk refused to work with Shatner in the endeavor
- Mega-rich powerful whales must show interest in Blockchain for mass adoption
Cryptocurrency News Today – legendary actor William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk on Star Trek is a long digital currency enthusiast. The actor who journeyed to the final frontier on Star Trek plans to build an authentication system that would be powered by the Ethereum Blockchain.
In May last year, Shatner made his intentions known regarding his intention to help build a Blockchain network that will focus on memorabilia authentication. The legendary actor appeared to Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin for assistance. And after more than one year Musk has gotten back to him. Musk said he didn’t have much use for Ethereum currently. His words:
“I’m not creating anything on the Ethereum network. I am not for it neither am I against it. I don’t just use it or own any ETH.”
Shatner Sees a Major Application for Blockchain in the Memorabilia Game
Although Musk may not be interested in the initiative, Shatner still believes that there is a major use case for Blockchain technology in the memorabilia game. He joked about how long it took the Tesla CEO to respond to his appeal (a year precisely). Here is how he put it:
“Your reply took a whole year. I still appreciate you very much even though you have not found Blockchain technology interesting.”
Musk has never hidden his dislike on Bitcoin and altcoins. He has been expressing his sentiments on social media. The Tesla chief has shared opinions on several topics and crypto is usually one of them. He has admitted to once adopting Dogecoin thinking it was a “cool” project. He felt the Dogecoin community was impressive. But Musk is famous for posting ominous tweets with mixed signals regarding Bitcoin and other cryptos. Recently, when Musk appeared on the Third Row Tesla Podcast, he said:
“I was never in support of Bitcoin at any point.”
Musk Has Never Been a Fan of Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Technology
Musk said the usage of the Blockchain will be more focused on fringe activities. Here is how he put it:
“This gets the people who love cryptocurrency angry. However, some transactions happen beyond the recommendations of the law. There are many laws for digital assets for different countries. Normally, cash can be used for these transactions. However, for illegal transactions to happen, cash must also be utilized for legal transactions. When you need an illegal to the legal bridge, you can depend on crypto.”
It is safe to say the digital currency world still needs the influence of the mega-rich and powerful whales. They must show interest in Blockchain if full-scale mass adoption must occur in the space. For now, the digital currency space must settle for the Captain of the Enterprise rather than the individual who created SpaceX.
