Florida plans from issuing digital driver’s license using blockchain technology

The applications of blockchain technology are increasing. Currently, the state of Florida is planning to launch the digital driver’s license program with the help of blockchain technology.

A bill to this effect is written by the agency for state technology and also sponsored by Republican James Grant. According to this bill, the collaboration between Department of Management services and AST would completely change in order to provide a digital proof of driver license. This would make it easier for the individuals to provide a driving license proof to the law enforcement officer.

According to the bill, it would be possible for the private entity to request access to digital proof of the driver license which is necessary for using the blockchain technology in order to issue the digital driver’s licenses.

The bill also clearly mentions the technology behind the distributed nature of cryptocurrencies would be used in order to initiate the proof of driver license. As long as this bill is passed without any modification, it would be possible for the individuals to verify their driver license with the information which is available on blockchain or in the electronic form.

According to the AST spokesperson, the agency is currently considering amalgamating driver’s license program with blockchain technology.

The agency is also taking into account the privacy concerns. The bill states that the law enforcement officer would be able to assess the authenticity of the driver by accessing the driver’s license but would not be able to access any other information of the driver on the blockchain.

Similarly, there are quite a few other states like Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC exploring the potential of blockchain technology in various government-related agencies. Similarly, Alabama has already launched a digital ID card which would help the individuals to file tax returns.

Increasingly, governments all over the world are trying to make use of the blockchain technology in order to make it easier for people to access their information and to ensure that the bureaucracy is making increasing use of blockchain technology in order to make the lives of people much easier.

If this bill by the State of Florida is passed, you can be sure that it would be easy for you to display your driving license to the law enforcement officer without actually physically carrying it. The law enforcement officer would be able to easily access it on the Internet based on a blockchain platform.
