Stress Testers ‘Bitpico’ Start Attack On Bitcoin Cash [BCH]

BitPico, simply identified as a group of developers, miners, and whales, said it has begun a coordinated attack on Bitcoin Cash (BCH) threatening to bring Roger Ver to tears. The group released a series of tweets on Friday, June 22, stating its intention to test the BCH Network using a coordinated 51% attack.

The mysterious group claimed that they already tested bitcoin’s lightening MainNet implementation through a similar attack and would now put its focus on BCH.

The first in the series of tweets read:

“The [Bitcoin Cash] attack has been started; it will continue to run as we work to amplify it over the coming months. We expect to have 5000 Bcash attack nodes in roughly 6 weeks and then we will multi-fork the chain. [Roger Ver] will now cry.”

BitPico, whose members remain anonymous, were instrumental to the SegWit2x bitcoin scaling proposal which fell through after the planned hard fork was canceled due to a shortage of support. After the episode, the group had been in the shadows until March when it came to support the lightning capacity. The group tweeted upon their return, addressing their long absence and stating their new intentions.

“We are no longer retired from bitcoin; just needed a break. We are bullish and working on the Lightning Network.”

At the same time, many of the problems Bitcoin faced at the time SegWit2x failed had improved; SegWit adoption had reduced fees to a fraction of their previous levels, while transaction times had decreased.

BitPico joins the Bitcoin [BTC] versus BitcoinCash [BCH] War

There is no end in sight for the ugly contentions between proponents of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. After Bitcoin Cash hard-forked from the Bitcoin network, the community has been divided on whether to accept bitcoin cash as bitcoin or not.

A strong voice in support of BCH is Roger Ver; in fact, he represents all things BCH. He claims bitcoin cash is bitcoin—only improved. Though Bitcoin’s fees and transaction times have reduced, BCH proponents claim superior tech over BTC, moreso after its recent fork to support 32MB block sizes and smart-contracts.

BitPico has taken the BTC side and is out to test the usefulness of BCH. They will go all out to expose the deficiencies in the BCH and they do believe they are obvious. bitPico tweeted

“We don’t think the [BitcoinCash] people understand how easy it is to bring their network down. We can just mine the transaction ourselves and drop the merchants zero-conf Tx from our stratum backed mempool”

The group promised to hardfork BCH to create a new network called the bitPicoCash

BitPico claimed that Bitcoin Cash’s in-house stress tests were centralized and controlled and will be faked.

Such condescending series of tweets attracted a plethora of curses and even death threats from some BCH supporter. The group is, however, bent on going ahead with the attack and have opened a GitHub repository for the purpose.
