Alibaba, IBM Top Globally Ranking for Blockchain Patents

iPR Daily, a media outlet specializing in intellectual property, has released a report of organizations with the most blockchain-related patents. In its report released on Friday, iPR daily identified Alibaba as the leasing organization with 90 patent filings.

New York-based IBM came in at second place with 89 applications while Mastercard, Bank of America, and Peoples Bank of China (PBOC) completer the top five organizations with 80, 54, and 44 respectively. Other notable companies in the top 20 of the list include Tencent, Accenture, Ping An Insurance, Bitmain, Intel, Visa, Sony, and Google.

Blockchain Patents in China and America

iPR Daily sourced  its data from relevant blockchain patent databases in China, the U.S., Europe, Japan and South Korea, as well as from the International Patent System from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The WIPO, in its report for blockchain patent, showed that China-based organizations filed the most blockchain patents last year. Chinese organizations, led by Alibaba made 49 percent all such filings while the US managed 33 percent in 2017.

China and America leading Blockchain Innovation

The iPR Daily report reflects results from recent blockchain survey conducted by big four auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) that placed the US and China as countries with the most blockchain innovation. In its study that, which sought the opinions of 600 blockchain-savvy executives, PwC predicted that China will overtake current leaders, the U.S. in terms of blockchain innovation in the next few years.

Companies, especially those listed on the list, are constantly making efforts in the area of blockchain. Although Jack Ma.
