An Overview Of Ethereum

Ethereum is an open-source platform based on the blockchain technology. It was the first blockchain project to support smart contract functionality. The native token of the platform is called Ether. It is referred to as the fuel that powers the Ethereum platform and the platform allows Ether to be sent fast and securely. The platform is made of two layers. The first layer is for private accounts that are controlled by individuals while the second layer is for contract accounts.

When it was launched as an initial coin offering in 2014, Ethereum was less of a working blockchain network and more of a theory. Now, the Ethereum blockchain is one of the most powerful in the world. It is still the foremost provider of smart contract functionality even if there are many third generation blockchains that now offer that feature.
