Twitter Blocks Elon Musk’s Account Temporarily After Suspicion That He was Hacked – Crypto News Today

Elon Musk says his account was briefly blocked by Twitter because the social media network suspected that his account was hacked.

The founder of Tesla indicated that this safety precaution was caused by a tweet he sent earlier asking if anyone wants to buy some bitcoin.

Previously, fake accounts have used images of Musk as well as different name variations to promote their crypto scams. They even reply within his posts on Twitter.

Twitter has not commented on the reasons for their actions. However, a spokeswoman for the company stated that the company is withholding comments on individual accounts for security and privacy reasons.

However, we believe the account was locked and not blocked as alleged.

The tweet

The suspected tweet features an anime drawing of a young girl wearing a bitcoin themed attire. The Japanese art form seems to have caught the attention of the entrepreneur as he recently commented on his new found love for anime movies.

The image in contention was initially created by a website called Cryptocurrency Girls. It has turned many of the largest cryptos into anime characters.

The thread became popular over social media and attracted over 8,000 likes within a few hours.

Previous scams linked to Musk

Musk has been a target of impersonators and scammers who have created accounts to peddle fraudulent crypto giveaways. His Twitter account is the major target, and it is possible that he poked fun at the fraudsters with the tweet.

After the tweets went out, prominent people in the crypto space have been engaging with the post.

Zhao Changpeng, the founder of Binance, the largest crypto exchange in the world by trading volume was one of them. He commented saying,

“Lol, it’s spreading. I will buy a Tesla if you accept crypto…”

Also, Dovery Wan, founder of Primitive Ventures also appeared shocked by Musk’s bitcoin tweet.

Other celebrity spoofs

Musk isn’t the only celebrity whose identity has been spoofed by people seeking publicity for fake crypto offers.

Others include:

Bill Gates

President Trump

Warren Buffet

John McAfee

In a report made by Cyber-security firm Duo Lab in august, it was revealed that some software tools called “Bots” were used to automate the scams. It also stated that they avoid detection by making minor edits to stolen profile images.

Musk has also complained about the problem and sought help to eradicate such annoying spammers from Dogecoin creator, Jackson Palmer.

Palmer suggested that the social network should find a way to weed out such posts automatically. He also urged it to be proactive in solving the problem.

“We are proactively tackling so-called cryptocurrency scams on the platform,” a spokeswoman for Twitter told the BBC.

“In the last week alone, user impressions have fallen by a multiple of 10, a significant improvement on previous action rates.”

Musk has also faced criticism for his activity on twitter recently. He claimed he secured funding to take Tesla private before the deal was finalized. Musk also accused a man of pedophilia without proof. However, his posts may bring more awareness to digital currencies.
