Recently, Ripple announced a collaboration between its University Blockchain Research Initiative and two higher education institutions in Japan.

Ripple Aims to Further Academic Research in Blockchain Technology by Partnering with Tokyo and Kyoto Universities

 The University Blockchain Research Initiative of Ripple has secured over 30 partnerships over the past years. The recent partners of the initiative are the University of Tokyo and the University of Kyoto. These new partners have increased the strength of the UBRI to 33. The University Blockchain Research Initiative aims to further academic research into blockchain technology. The aim of Ripple is to equip computer scientists and developers of tomorrow with the knowledge that they need to support the vision of a digital economy in the future.

The University Blockchain Research Initiative of Ripple just extended its reach into Japan, according to a press release by the firm. The latest partners of the enterprise, the University of Tokyo and the University of Kyoto, are the first higher education institutions to join the group from Japan. According to the press release, the University of Tokyo and the University of Kyoto have already been working with Ripple across all study levels.

Kyoto University’s Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability recently held a workshop and raised funds for research projects set to explore the application of blockchain in solving several global issues. This has to do with several fields of study such as public policy, business, and engineering. Some of the topics they studied include how blockchain could revolutionize the present remittances services, supply chain management, and digital identity management systems for refugees.

The University of Tokyo Set to Host a Seminar Focusing on Blockchain and Settlement – Cryptocurrency News Today – Cryptocurrency Market Update

The Department of Economics at the University of Tokyo is set to host public seminars that will focus on blockchain technology settlements, together with several research projects organized by professors. The projects will be focusing on the fast-growing financial system as well as the regulatory approaches to it. According to the report, the University will award scholarships to students that will be part of the blockchain research. In a statement, the SVP of Global Operations at Ripple – Eric van Miltenburg – said:

As the industry gets mature, the academic community will play a key role in paving the way for innovative firms and entrepreneurs leveraging digital assets and blockchain technologies.
